Giuseppe: Was it challenging to adapt the concept of murder mystery to a card fighting game that is usually… well… about fighting? We’re doing things that are new and exciting for Hearthstone players and want to create things that players are excited to log in to. It has arrived that makes the hearth special and we are doing things that we cannot do outside the digital space. We really want to bring things like Suspicious, which is another example of where these are conversations we haven’t seen in Hearthstone before, so yes, this is new to Hearthstone, but it goes back to the roots of all of them. So things like “Prince Renathal” that increases your deck size and health pool by 40, it’s something we’ve never done before, but we’ve talked about it many times. Liv Breeden: There’s also a level of return to wonder and delight for Hearthstone. So that was something that we were really passionate about pursuing this year and of course, it’s something that you can see in Castle Nthria with the infuse keyword, and with a lot of token-style archetypes which we are revealing so far. So a mix of old and new philosophy.Īnd we’ve done really amazing things with combo-style gameplay over the past year, and it’s something that we definitely want to keep doing, but we just want to make it so that every year and with new strategies and new ones. We want to encourage it, but present it in a new way. Has happened.īut I think it’s a really great opportunity to be able to get back to basics, given that we’re a card game that thrives on minion-based combat. It’s only natural that games evolve and evolve over time, and we’ve been around for eight years now, so it’s great that we continue to incorporate different strategies and evolve to become more interesting and more complex over time. Can and “Harvest Golem” and “Azure Drake” are actually top tier minions. It’s something that, if you’ve been playing Hearthstone since the beginning, reminds you of the good old days of “innerweight,” “coin,” followed by “yeti” being the coolest thing you can do in turn. And that was really encouraging core-based gameplay and minion-focused combat.
